Weekly Update 05/24/13

Important Announcements:

*Next week we are reading the story Summer Vacation from the Black Lagoon.  We will be reading the book and working on activities from the book throughout the week.  There will be no reading homework next week.  

*I will send a report of your child’s SRI scores sometime next week.    

*We were so sad to cancel our field trip to McCloud on Wednesday.  Even though we did not have any storms, we would much rather error on the side of caution.  We do have a special activity planned for the children next week.  We are hoping to do it Thursday afternoon (weather permitting).  More information will be coming next week!   

*Our class did a GREAT job today at track and field.  I was very proud of their sportsmanship and how hard they worked.   

*There will be no school on Monday, May 27^th due to Memorial Day. 

*Our final Unit 12 math test will take place on Wednesday, May 29^th.  We will review on Tuesday, May 28^th. 

*The last student day will be Friday, May 31^st.  This school year is coming to a close quickly!  This will be my last post to the blog for this year.  I have had a great year this year, and I hope your child has as well.  We have learned a lot from each other, and I am so blessed to have had this class!  Thanks for all of the support this year!

Weekly Update 05/17/13

Important Announcements:

*Our class reading Hall of Fame has been posted outside of the classroom.  We have students that have read over 100,000 words so far this year!  I have challenged the children to make it to the next level on the Hall of Fame before the end of the school year. 

*Next week we are reading the story The Great Kapok Tree.  Your child will be bringing home a copy of the book on Tuesday to read with you.  Please make sure the book is returned to school on Wednesday.  Your child will be taking a reading counts test over the story on Thursday, May 23^rd. 

*We will be taking the final SRI test of the year on Tuesday, May 21^st.  I am excited to see how much your child’s lexile has grown this year!  I will send a report of your child’s scores before the end of the school year. 

*Our field trip to McCloud Nature Park will take place on Wednesday, May 22^nd.  Your child will need to have a sack lunch (whether purchased from the cafeteria or brought from home).  We will be leaving school around 9:00 a.m. and returning at approximately 1:45 p.m.  Long sleeves and pants are recommended because of the bugs.  We will be going rain or shine so please have your child dress accordingly! 

*Mrs. Kraus will be in our classroom on Thursday, May 23rd for our last character education lesson of the year. 

*Track and Field will take place on Friday, May 24^th.  Our class will be wearing our Dog Jog t-shirts that day.  Please make sure to put sunscreen on your child that morning.  Your child may also bring a water bottle to school that day. 

*There will be no school on Monday, May 27^th due to Memorial Day.

Important Announcements:

*Attention Parent Volunteers-

 Track and Field is approaching quickly.  I am in need of around 30 volunteers still.  If you can please help on Fri. May 24th, my students and I would greatly appreciate it.  Please email me (shopkins@brownsburg.k12.in.us) or call me at 852-1062 ext. 1319 to tell me what time slot you could help us out (AM- 9:00-12:00, PM 12:30-3:30, or all day).  Thanks in advance for making this day full of memories.
