Weekly Update 09/20/13

Important Announcements:

*Children that were drawn from the paw bucket last week: Atta, Taylor, and Kade.  Way to go!

*Children that were drawn from the paw bucket this week: Atta and Deyonna.  Yippee!

*We had a fantastic Dog Jog event today.  I would like to thank the parents that were able to volunteer and make our event such a successful one!  Money raised from the Dog Jog event is due back to school by October 1st.

*Spelling words went home today in the Family Times newsletter printed on yellow paper.  They always go home the Friday before so that your child has a week to study them.  The words can be found under Day 4, and they are highlighted.  The words for next week are: didn’t, hadn’t, haven’t, he’s, I’ll, I’m, isn’t, it’s, she’s, can’t, aren’t, who’s.  We do take the tests on the computer using www.spellingcity.com/awhisman.  You may want to help your child practice capitalizing, spacing, and finding the apostrophe on the keyboard.  Your child will be counted wrong for not capitalizing the I in I’ll and I’m on the computer.  I will be more lenient when it comes to using the apostrophe and spacing.

*Our next All-Pro Dad’s event will take place on Friday, October 4th.  You can learn more about the event by checking out the flier that is attached to the weekly e-mail.  You can also visit this link: http://www.allprodad.com/3634 to learn more.

*Mrs. Dziadosz and Mrs. Fowler are already preparing for our Veteran’s Day program.  Please see the flier attached to the weekly e-mail if you would like to honor a veteran during the program!

*Brownsburg Education Foundation (BEF) is currently holding its annual Yankee Candle sale.  This fundraiser also directly benefits the Brownsburg Community Schools, and I have been able to write several grants throughout my years of teaching that BEF has funded.  I encourage you to participate in this fundraiser if you can.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

Weekly Update 09/13/13

Important Announcements:

*I sent out an e-mail asking your preference for classroom information to be sent to you.  You overwhelmingly picked e-mail.  However, I had some great reasons presented to me for keeping the blog.  Those reasons were so convincing (and I am a people pleaser) so I will be doing BOTH.  I will send the information in a weekly e-mail, but I will update the blog as well so that you can refer back to it as needed.

*Ethan celebrated his birthday on Sunday, September 8, 2013.  Happy Birthday, Ethan!

*Next week I will be sending home parent/teacher conference sign ups for the families that I do not have a conference scheduled for already.  Please send those back as soon as possible!

*Spelling words went home today in the Family Times newsletter printed on yellow paper.  They always go home the Friday before so that your child has a week to study them.  The words can be found under Day 4, and they are highlighted.  The words for next week are: before, born, chore, corn, farm, hard, horse, more, part, porch, score, and smart.

*Information about our Dog Jog event came home with your child today.  Our class will be doing our portion of the Dog Jog from 12:45 – 1:15.  Because of Dog Jog, we will have a shortened special schedule held at a different time.  We will have specials on Friday from 10:55 – 11:20.  Dog Jog is our biggest fundraiser and all money raised directly benefits Delaware Trail and our class.  Thank you in advance for your participation in our fundraising efforts!

*Are you interested in volunteering for our Dog Jog event?  If so, please click on this link and fill out the online form: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0C4FAEAC23A3FA7-dogjog/2137608

*Please see attached flier on the parent e-mail for information about a special luncheon on Dog Jog day.

*You must have a background check on file in order to be on the track during Dog Jog.  If we do not have one on file, please fill out the form immediately!  If you do not have a background check on file, you are still more than welcome to watch Dog Jog from the bleachers.

Weekly Update 09/06/13

Important Announcements:

*Students that were drawn from the paw bucket for the last two weeks: Abigail, Atta, Caden, and Justin

*Our class was drawn for the paw bucket this week!  Our special treat is that we get to wear our pajamas to school on Friday!  Yippee!

*I will be sending home mid-terms on Monday.  Please sign and return those by Tuesday.  Thanks!

*Next week I will be sending home parent/teacher conference sign ups for the families that I do not have a conference scheduled for already.  Please send those back as soon as possible!

*Next week we are taking a week off from our new reading series.  This means that your child has a week off from spelling and dictation.  Enjoy!

*We will be practicing fluency and comprehension next week by practicing Reader’s Theater plays.  Your child will have an assigned part that he/she will need to practice daily next week for homework.  On Thursday, I will send home a rubric that I would like for you to use to evaluate how well your child is reading his/her part.  On Friday your child will take a test over his/her play.

*I sent home a sticker chart today with your child’s name on it with the word August.  This was your child’s homework chart for August.  The percentage at the bottom is the percentage of homework your child turned in on time.  The letters NS stand for no school and AB stands for absent.  If your child has an X on his/her chart, it means he/she did not turn in homework on time.  Your child will get these at the start of each new month.

*We have started our geography unit in Social Studies.  As you are visiting places in Brownsburg (restaurants, stores, neighborhoods, etc.), can you please take your child’s picture in front of them and send them to me electronically?  We will be using these pictures during our geography unit.  Thanks so much!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*Friday, September 20th will be our annual Dog Jog event!  We will have our kick-off convocation on Friday, September 13th.
