Weekly Update 03-21-14

Important Announcements:

*Happy Spring Break!  It has been a long winter (and I am not convinced it is not over yet), but we made it to spring break!  I pray whatever your plans are that you are able to relax and enjoy!  I will be in town over the break and am looking forward to starting on some projects around my house.

*I have decided to extend the reading competition until the end of April.  I REALLY want to eat pizza with your child!  Spring Break would be a great time to read some books.  Encourage your child to continue to read and take Reading Counts tests while at school!

*Report cards will be available online starting today.

*Second grade will be practicing philanthropy by having a penny war the week we return from spring break.  The object is to have the highest amount of points by the end of the week.  The classroom with the highest points will receive a special treat.  Our class will earn points by donating pennies to our class bucket.  We will have points subtracted if other classrooms donate silver coins and dollar bills in our class bucket.  The money that second grade raises will be donated to Delaware Trail’s Relay for Life team.

*Smile!  Spring pictures will be taken on April 16th.

*Our next school-wide goal for behavior tickets is 25,000.

*This year's Relay for Life will be Saturday, May 17th - Sunday, May 18th from 9:30am-9:30am on the Town Hall Green.  I will be doing Relay for Life this year in honor of all of my family members that have fought cancer, but especially in memory of my father that lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in January of 2012.  This is a family friendly event so join our team!  It's going to be a lot of fun and we hope you will join in to make a huge difference!  You can join our team by visiting our team page at: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?team_id=1501859&pg=team&fr_id=58499&fl=en_US&et=jBA1EedW0kb81W1fpTi0wA&s_tafId=1292306

*A field trip is in the works for second grade.  I will have more details as they become available.

*Track and Field has been moved to Friday, May 30th.  Mark your calendar!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!
