Weekly Update 02-27-15

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to these students for leveling up this week: Davian, Ayden, Lila, and Autumn.  Wow!  I am so proud of how hard they are working to show behavioral and academic growth.  Way to go!

*Our reading competition is on!  I haven’t pulled official totals yet, but I believe that I already have a student that is officially at the halfway mark for the pizza party!  It is so exciting!  Any book that your child has read or has listened to (either you reading it, me reading it, or on tape or CD) and that has a Reading Counts test over it, is a book that is eligible for the competition.  If your child passes the quiz over the book, he/she will earn a certain number of points.  We have a sticker chart that we are keeping track of points on.  When your child fills the sticker chart one time, he/she will earn a token.  If your child fills his/her chart a second time, he/she will be invited to a pizza party with me.  The reading competition will go on through Spring Break.

*Our Winter Carnival (formally Spring Fling) will take place TONIGHT from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Hope to see you there!

*ISTEP + is quickly approaching for grades 3-5.  ISTEP+ will be affecting our specials time.  The week of March 2nd, our specials will be from 8:50 – 9:35. The students wrote persuasive letters to Mrs. Greene asking for an additional break in the afternoon since it will be such a LONG afternoon, and they were so persuasive that she granted their request!  The kids were very excited about this!

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.

*If anyone is able to come in and volunteer next week, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .

Weekly Update 02-16-15

Important Announcements:

*Thank you to all that made the Valentine’s Party a success!  I appreciate all the parents that were able to donate and/or volunteer their time to make it a success!  THANK YOU!

*Thank you to everyone that was able to donate food to our food drive to benefit Gleaners Food Bank.  Our schoolwide goal was to donate 600 items which we were able to achieve by Thursday!  Because of this, we are having a stuffed animal day on Wednesday, February 18th.

*We will have no school on Monday, February 16th in honor of President’s Day!  This means that we will have music (normally our Monday special) on Tuesday, and we will NOT have library next week at all.

*Our Winter Carnival (formally Spring Fling) will take place on Friday, February 27th from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Our class basket this year is a scrapbooking theme.  If you would like to donate anything for our class basket, please send in donations no later than Friday, February 20th.

*One of the valentines I gave your child was a coupon for $5 off from Scholastic Book Orders (when you purchase $10 worth of books).  If you choose to use this coupon, the redemption instructions are on the valentine.  I am sending book orders home today.  If you choose to purchase books, you may order online or send in the book order with your child with a check payment.  All orders are due by February 20, 2015!
