Weekly Update 05/30/14

Important Announcements:

*Anna will be celebrating her birthday tomorrow, May 31st.  Happy Birthday, Anna!

*We had a fantastic time at the zoo yesterday!  The kids had a lot of fun!  I would like to thank these volunteers for chaperoning and making our trip such a success: Mrs. Dougherty, Mrs. Fought, Mrs. Garnett, Mrs. Hart, Mrs. Janeksela, Mrs. LaRoche, Mr. Matthews, Ms. Miles, Mrs. Rowe, Mr. Sinclair, Mr. Utterback, Mrs. Vandeveer, Mr. Walden, and Mr. Williams.  THANK YOU!

*We will be taking the final Scholastic Reading Inventory test on Tuesday, June 3rd.  I am excited to see the end of the year scores!

*The Brownsburg Public Library will be here on Monday to talk to the students about their summer reading program.  More information will be sent home after the presentation.

*Thursday, June 5th is the last student day of the year.  We will have an awards program at 9:00 a.m. on that day.  The Teacher Talent Show will be at 2:30 on June 5th.

*We have only one more week left of school, but we still have a lot of things to do during that time. We will be taking a Reading Counts quiz over our next book Wagon Train during the week of June 2nd.  We will also be taking our Unit 12 math test that week, too.  For the most part, we will not be having much reading homework.  However, we will still have some math homework that will be assigned.

*At this point in the year, your child should have mastery of all of his/her addition math and subtraction math facts.  Mastery would be 100% on the five minute weekly time test.  Practice those math facts!  In third grade your child will be expected to have mastery of multiplication and division facts.  I have already introduced multiplication and division to your child, and we will be working more on multiplication and division facts.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!
