Weekly Update 05/23/14

Important Announcements:

*We have no school on Monday, May 26th in observance of Memorial Day.  Enjoy your weekend!

*Our field trip to the Indianapolis Zoo will be Thursday, May 29th.  We will leave school at 9:00 a.m. and should return by 2:00 p.m.  If you did not order a sack lunch from the cafeteria for your child, please make sure your child has a lunch to take to the zoo.  We are asking that all children wear their purple Dog Jog t-shirts.  We are also asking that children NOT bring extra money for the gift shop and concessions.  If you are chaperoning the field trip, I will have more information for you next week!

*Track and Field is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 30th!  Our tie-dye t-shirts will be sent home next week, and I am asking that your child wears his/her tie-dye t-shirt on Friday.  Your child may also bring a water bottle from home in order to keep hydrated throughout the day.  We are outside most of the day so sunscreen is always a good idea!  I am looking forward to a day filled with fun and good sportsmanship!

*We will be taking the final Scholastic Reading Inventory test on Tuesday, June 3rd.  I am excited to see the end of the year scores!

*We have only two more weeks left of school, but we still have a lot of things to do during that time. We will be taking a Reading Counts quiz over our next book Wagon Train during the week of June 2nd.  We will also be taking our Unit 12 math test that week, too.  For the most part, we will not be having much reading homework.  However, we will still have some math homework that will be assigned.

*At this point in the year, your child should have mastery of all of his/her addition math and subtraction math facts.  Mastery would be 100% on the five minute weekly time test.  Practice those math facts!  In third grade your child will be expected to have mastery of multiplication and division facts.  I have already introduced multiplication and division to your child, and we will be working more on multiplication and division facts.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .
