Weekly Update 12-19-14

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to Riley!  Riley has leveled up to the next level on the Super Improvers Wall in the classroom.  I have several students who are SO close to leveling up.  Students earn stars for showing improvements in academics and behavior.  Once ten stars are earned, he/she levels up.  Way to go, Riley!

*Second nine weeks has officially ended, and we have had a great week!  The school earned the behavior reward and our reward was a special guest today – Boomer!  The kids had a blast!  We ended the day with a holiday tradition – Delaware Trail’s annual sing along.  It was such a great day!  We have all been working hard, and it is time for two weeks off.  I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas, and I am looking forward to us accomplishing great things together in 2015!

*Report cards will be available online starting Friday, January 9, 2015.

*Earlier this week I sent home the reading calendar to be completed over vacation.  If your child participates and returns it to school after Christmas Break, he/she will be invited to a special movie and popcorn party.  I will attach an extra copy of the calendar to this e-mail in case you didn’t get one.  Happy Reading!

*Second grade teachers have set the deadline of all second graders having 100% mastery on addition math facts by the end of January.  After that, we will focus our attention on subtraction math facts. You will notice that math facts practice will start being assigned as homework after we return from Christmas Break.  Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division flashcards would make perfect stocking stuffers!

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.  I sent the log in information home with your child and these two weeks off would be a great time to practice!

*If anyone is able to come in and volunteer after break, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

Weekly Update 12-12-14

Important Announcements:

*Next week will be the last week of the second nine weeks!  It is hard to believe that we will be half way done with the school year!

*We do not have a reading story next week from the basal.  Instead, the majority of the class will be reading Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  Four students will be reading Stanley’s Christmas Adventure and four students will be reading December Dog.  Today I met with those students that will be reading a different story.  No matter what story your child is reading, he/she will have in class work to complete and will be taking a quiz over his/her story on Friday.  I am in need of additional copies of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  If you have a copy at home that you do not mind letting us borrow next week, please send it in with your child on Monday.  Make sure to put your name in the book so that we can return it to you by the end of the week!  Thanks!

*If your child is able to complete all of his/her reading work in class on the assigned days, he/she will not have any reading homework next week.

*There will NOT be a spelling test next week!  Enjoy the week off!

*If your child is missing a coat, hat, or lunchbox, please have him/her check the school’s lost and found.  Our lost and found collection has exploded recently!  All items that are in the lost and found will be donated during Christmas Break.

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.  Let me know if you need the log-in information sent home again.

*If anyone is able to come in and volunteer next week, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!
