Weekly Update 01-23-15

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to Braeden!  Braeden leveled up on the Super Improver Wall in the classroom.  In order to level up, a child has to earn ten stickers for showing improvement academically and behaviorally.  Way to go, Braeden!

*We celebrated the 100th day of school this week by taking pictures of ourselves and using an app to age us.  We then wrote about our first 100 years.  The pictures came up on Wednesday.  If you did not see the picture of your aged child, and would like to, e-mail me, and I will send it to you!  The students looked so cute!

*I sent home book orders with your child today.  If you would like to purchase books for your child, you may order online using the code: GVCWL.  If you want to write a check, you can send the order form in with your child and turn it into me.  All orders are due TODAY.  If you are placing an online order, please do so by midnight tonight so I can submit the orders over the weekend.  Thanks!

*A note from Mrs. Hopkins:

Why do Jump/Hoops for Heart?

-Heart disease is the number 1 killer.

-We are increasing the child's knowledge about his/her heart and how to take care of it.

-Our children are developing significant health issues, and on the average, American children spend
nearly 4 hours watching television a day.

-To honor those in the community who have been affected by heart and stroke issues.

-The American Heart Association advocates for physical education and wellness in schools, provides CPR classes in middle and high school, created teaching gardens across the country, has teamed up with NFL Play 60 program which we are a part of, and is second to the federal government for pediatric cardiac research funding.

If you can, please help us make a small dent to promote a healthy lifestyle!  Hoops for Heart money will be due on Thursday, January 29th!

Thank you,

Mrs. Hopkins

*Second grade teachers have set the deadline of all second graders having 100% mastery on addition math facts by the end of January (NEXT WEEK).  After that, we will focus our attention on subtraction math facts.

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.
