Weekly Update 04-25-15

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to Faith, Riley, Sa’Nyah, and Justin for leveling up this week.  Wow!  I am so proud of how hard these students are working to show behavioral and academic growth.  Way to go, Faith, Riley, Sa’Nyah, and Justin!

*Please email, call, or send in a note to Mrs. Hopkins if you will be able to volunteer to help with our track and field day on Friday, May 22nd. We still are in need of 30 helpers. Please state if you can work morning, afternoon, or full day. Also give your email and phone number where you be reached. Thanks so much for helping our students on this fun day. They all look forward to it!

*MONDAY IS THE DAY!  I will officially be introducing your child to Trade-First Subtraction (borrowing).  Finally!

*The last day for our class reading competition will be Friday, May 1st.  I will pull points reports over that weekend and announce the students that qualify for the pizza party with me.  Today was the last day that we are able to get in computer lab for several weeks so all Reading Counts quizzes will need to be done in the classroom during stations time.  I have several kids who are very close to qualifying, and I would love to see as many students as possible have a pizza party with me!

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.

*If anyone is able to come in next week to volunteer, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .

*We are having a school-wide book fair next week.  If you would like to have your child shop for books, he/she will need to bring money to school on Tuesday, April 21st.  Your child will be given the opportunity to shop during our library specials time.  This is the ONLY time your child will be allowed to shop so please make sure money is sent in on Tuesday.  Thanks!

*Next week our spelling list is abbreviations.  Your child will have to capitalize and type the “.” after the abbreviation to get full credit on his/her spelling test.  This may be a good test to practice at home using the website: www.spellingcity.com/awhisman.

*Grades 3 – 5 will begin the next round of ISTEP+ testing starting April 27th.  Next week will be a practice session for testing.  This round is all on computers so computer lab will be unavailable until the testing is completed.  We will still take our reading and spelling tests on the computer, we will just complete them in the classroom on Fridays.

*Permission slips for our field trip to the zoo were sent home last Friday.  Please turn in your permission slip and payment at the same time.  If you are interested in chaperoning for the field trip, you need to make sure that you have a criminal background check on file.  If you need to do one, you may go to our website: www.brownsburg.k12.in.us.  Click on the “About Us” tab.  Go down to “Volunteer Connection.”  In the bottom paragraph click on the “Click Here” and it takes you to the form.  Permission slips and payment are due no later than Friday, April 24th.
