Weekly Update 02/07/13

Important Announcements:
*The February Book-It calendar will be sent home on Monday, February 4th.  Your child will need to complete the reading and return the calendar on Thursday, February 28th.  Happy reading!

* Time for Teachers will be held on Monday, February 11th from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.  If your child is attending, you should have received a transportation letter on Thursday that needs to be returned to school signed no later than Monday.  Thanks!

*Earlier this week I sent home a class list for Valentines.  If your child is planning on distributing Valentines, please make sure he/she has one for each class member.  Thanks!

* Student Council is doing a special fundraiser for Valentine’s Day!  Students will be able to purchase a gift for a friend, family member, or staff member for only $1 each.  The gift will include a Riley Caring & Sharing heart and a small Dum-Dum sucker.  These special gifts will be delivered on Valentine’s Day by our student council representatives.  Students may purchase as many of these gifts as they would like from Thursday, February 7 through Thursday, February 14th.  If your child is purchasing one of these, please make sure he/she knows the name of the person it is for.  If they are buying for a student they will also need to know what grade the student is in and/or their teacher’s name.

*A note from Mrs. Hopkins:
Dear Parents:
My students and I would like to invite you to our annual Come Play with Me day in physical education.  This a fun experience at school with your child and other parents in your class.  It will be held the week of February 25-28 during your child’s physical education class.  Don’t forget to bring your tennis shoes and comfy clothes so you can participate with your child.  We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hopkins

If you plan on coming to Come Play with Me, please make sure you have a criminal background check on file.  Thanks!

*The Spring Fling is quickly approaching!  It will be held on Friday, March 1st.  Our classroom basket theme is school supplies so if you would like to donate to the basket, you may begin sending in those donations.  Donations are due by Monday, February 25th.  Any donations of 2-liters, suckers, individually-wrapped candy, all sizes of candy bars, and baked goods are also greatly appreciated! Soda and candy donations are due by Monday, February 25, and baked goods can be sent in on Thursday, February 28th, and Friday, March 1st.  If you are interested in volunteering for the event or have any questions, you may contact Melissa Myers at myers243@yahoo.com or 317-374-8148 (call/text) to get more information about volunteering or donating.
