Weekly Update 01/31/14

Important Announcements:

*Jump Rope for Heart money is due on Monday, February 3rd!

*The spring party is fast approaching.  The upcoming spring party will take place on 2/14 from 2:30 -3:15.  Mrs. Fought has put together a list of things that will be needed for party.

If you would like to attend the party that would be great!  If you can donate to the class party or attend please email me @ lsinclairfought@hotmail.com.  Any donation will be helpful!!  Thanks for your help.

*We took the SRI test on Wednesday.  I sent home a chart with your child’s progress on Wednesday.  Many students improved their scores, and I am really proud of the progress they are making overall!

*On Monday I will be telling the students about a reading competition that will start next week and extend until Spring Break.   If your child reads or listens to a book (either at school or at home), and it has a reading counts quiz on it, he/she can take the quiz during reading stations.  The books that are in the database (and many books are) have assigned point values.  If your child passes the test, he/she will get a sticker for every point the book has to put on his/her sticker chart.  When your child fills one sticker chart, he / she will earn a token.  When your child fills the second sticker chart, he/she will be invited to a special pizza party with Miss Whisman.  Your child will have until Spring Break to complete this reading challenge!

*I am starting to transition the class into taking their weekly reading tests on the computer.  Many students completed the test on the computer today.  I hope to have ALL students transitioned to the computer by next week.  If your child took the test on the computer today, he/she will have a score sheet stapled to a blank reading test.  In third grade your child will be taking high stakes standardized testing on the computer.  I am hoping that by getting them used to testing on the computer this year, it will not be such a difficult transition on them at the beginning of third grade.

*I think we are all going a little stir crazy!  With our many two – hour delays causing us to have different schedules and not being able to go outside for recess, we are really struggling with behavior right now.  If you check Class Dojo (and you really should!) you may have noticed this.  I am confident that we will be able to turn this around soon!

*Just a reminder that if we have a two-hour delay on a Wednesday that it will NOT be an early release day.  Students would be released at the normal time of 3:40.

*Snow days will be made up the first week of June.  As of now, we WILL have school on June 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

*Our next school-wide goal for behavior tickets by the end of the 3rd nine weeks is 25,000.

*Time with Teachers will be held on February 4th from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

*The next All-Pro Dad’s event will take place on Friday, February 7th at 7:45 a.m.

*The week of February 10th – 14th we will be having a Book Fair at school!

*February 17th: NO SCHOOL President’s Day/ Orange Leaf Fundraiser

*February 20th: PTSG Meeting @ 6:30 p.m.

*February 24th-28th: Read Across America Week

*March 7th: Spring Fling 6-9 p.m.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .
