Weekly Update 04/25/14

Important Announcements:

*Caden celebrated his birthday on Monday, April 21st.  Happy Birthday, Caden!

*Class Dojo was down today so clip-ups and clip-downs were not recorded on it!

*This week we earned our school-wide behavior goal of 25,000 behavior tickets!  Our outdoor picnic was rained out, but the students still had a great time having a picnic on the cafeteria floor!  Our next behavior ticket goal will be announced soon!

*We took our April SRI test on Wednesday.  I have sent your child’s report home.  I am pleased with the growth and progress in the students!

*NEXT WEEK is the last week for our reading competition.  Students will be able to take Reading Counts quizzes every day next week!  I am excited to see how many students I will be eating pizza with!

*The final PTSG meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, May 2st at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria!

*All-Pro Dad’s will take place on Friday, May 2nd at 7:45 a.m.

*Did you know there is a Box Tops competition currently going on at our school?  The class that brings in the most Box Tops by the end of April gets to duct tape Mrs. Greene to a wall!  How fun would that be?!?!?!?  Bring in those Box Tops and label them with our class’s name!

*For our poetry unit, your child will need to bring in a picture of something he/she loves.  It can be a picture of your family, a family pet, a favorite animal, favorite food, favorite hobby, etc.  Your child will need to put his/her name on the back of the picture so that it can be returned.  If you have not sent in a picture, please do so by MONDAY.  Thanks!

*We are going to tie-dye t-shirts for track and field!  In order to do this, I will need for you to send in a plain, white t-shirt for your child.  Please put your child’s name on the t-shirt in permanent marker either on the tag or on the inside collar of the t-shirt.  T-shirts will need to be sent in by Friday, May 16th.

*At this point in the year, your child should have mastery of all of his/her addition math and subtraction math facts.  Mastery would be 100% on the five minute weekly time test.  Practice those math facts!  In third grade your child will be expected to have mastery of multiplication and division facts.  I have already introduced multiplication and division to your child, and we will be working more on multiplication and division facts in upcoming chapters.

*This year's Relay for Life will be Saturday, May 17th - Sunday, May 18th from 9:30am-9:30am on the Town Hall Green.  I will be doing Relay for Life this year in honor of all of my family members that have fought cancer, but especially in memory of my father that lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in January of 2012.  This is a family friendly event so join our team!  It's going to be a lot of fun and we hope you will join in to make a huge difference!  You can join our team by visiting our team page at: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?team_id=1501859&pg=team&fr_id=58499&fl=en_US&et=jBA1EedW0kb81W1fpTi0wA&s_tafId=1292306

*Tickets have been purchased and our field trip to the Indianapolis Zoo is all set for Thursday, May 29th!  We will be leaving school at 9:00 a.m. and returning by 2:00 p.m.  Your child will need to bring a sack lunch from home that day (unless he/she ordered one from the cafeteria).  Your child will also wear his/her Dog Jog t-shirt from this year.  There will be a lot of people at the zoo the day we are there, and this will help us quickly identify one of our students.  If you are chaperoning, I will be sending you more information!  Thanks!

*Track and Field has been moved to Friday, May 30th.  The rain date will be June 2nd.  Mark your calendar!  We are in need of about 50 more parent volunteers for track and field.  If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Hopkins, our gym teacher, and let her know!

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!
