Weekly Update 08-15-14

Important Announcements:

*We have had a busy week!  We are in full school mode, and we are working hard on routines and procedures.

*Up to this point, your child has only had reading homework.  Starting on TUESDAY, your child will have a reading and a math assignment each night.

*We will be taking the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) on Tuesday, August 19th.  When your child takes this computerized test, it will generate a score based on how well your child reads passages and answers multiple choice questions.  This test scores your child’s reading comprehension.  A second grader should score in the 300-600 lexile range.  I will send home a report sometime next week that has your child’s score on it.

*We have been studying geography during social studies.  We are going to be talking about the geography of Brownsburg.  As you are out and about in town, if you do not mind taking your child’s picture in front of businesses, neighborhoods, parks, etc. and sending it to me, I would greatly appreciate it!  Taking a picture on your cell phone and e-mailing it to me electronically is fine!  This will become part of our geography display.  Thanks for your help with this!

*If anyone is able to come in and volunteer next week, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!

*If you have not had a chance to activate your account on Class Dojo, please take the time to do so.  I will be sending e-mails from Class Dojo to the parents that have not activated their account inviting them to do so.  Class Dojo will send you a weekly report on your child’s behavior.

*Today is the first time we took our spelling test on the computer.  The kids did a great job, and I was really impressed with how well they were able to do this!  If your child would like to practice spelling words online at home, he/she may use www.spellingcity.com/awhisman.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .
