Weekly Update 11-26-14

Important Announcements:

*Happy Thanksgiving!  I am thankful for wonderful students, supportive parents, and a fantastic school year so far!  I hope you all have a safe and fun-filled Thanksgiving weekend.  I am planning on going to my sister’s house in Fishers and preparing the Thanksgiving feast for most of our extended family.  Whatever your plans are, I hope that you enjoy!

*Congratulations to Charlie and Anna!  These children leveled up on the super-improvers wall in the classroom.  Students earn stars by showing improvement in academic and behavioral areas.  Once ten stars are earned, a child levels up to the next level.  Way to go, Charlie and Anna!

*SRI reports are printed and have been sent home with your child today!

*We did take our reading test today on the computer.  After reviewing the overall scores, I have decided to NOT put it in the gradebook.  However, I still did send your child’s score home with him/her today.

*On Monday, I will be sending book order forms home.  If you would like to purchase books for your child, please fill out the order form(s) and return it with a check made payable to Scholastic by Friday, December 5th so that the books will be back in time for Christmas Break.  You can also order online.  Use the code: GVCWL when ordering online at www.scholastic.com/readingclub.  This is OPTIONAL.  Also, if you want to purchase books for Christmas presents for your child, make sure to include that in a note to me (or e-mail) and I will notify you when the order is in so you can pick it up instead of me sending it home with your child.

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.  Let me know if you need the log-in information sent home again.

*If anyone is able to come in and volunteer next week, send me an e-mail and let me know what day and time works best for you!  Thanks!

*The church I attend, The Blended Church, is one of the sponsors of Fox 59’s Pack the Pantries.  If you are interested in donating canned goods and other food items, but don’t want to drop it off at one of the sites, please feel free to send it in with your child, and I will be more than happy to deliver it for you.

*I believe in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and outside the classroom.  If your child participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.), or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me know, and I will do my best to come!

*The blog will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again visit http://misswhisman.blogspot.com .

Weekly Update 11/21/14

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to Griffin, Qwentin, and Davian!  These gentlemen leveled up on the super-improvers wall in the classroom.  Students earn stars by showing improvement in academic and behavioral areas.  Once ten stars are earned, a child levels up to the next level.  Way to go, Griffin, Qwentin, and Davian!

*Next week is a three-day week.  We will not be having spelling words next week.  We will be taking the reading test on Wednesday.  However, I will wait to see how the students do on it before I decide whether or not to take it for a grade.  As far as homework, your child will have reading and math homework on Monday, reading homework on Tuesday, and no homework over Thanksgiving Break.

*We will be taking the SRI test next week.  Once I have printed the reports, I will send home your child’s new (and hopefully improved!) score.

*Continue to work on addition and subtraction math facts.  Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can practice for free online at www.xtramath.org.  Let me know if you need the log-in information sent home again.

Weekly Update 11-14-14

Important Announcements:

*Congratulations to Anah!  Anah is the first student to level up on the super-improvers wall in the classroom.  I have many students who are close to moving to the next level.  Students earn stars by showing improvement in academic and behavioral areas.  Once ten stars are earned, a child levels up to the next level.  Way to go, Anah!

*We have had a wonderful week filled with Veteran’s Day activities.  I am so proud of the way the class celebrated Veteran’s Day during the all school program.  It was a great way to remember and to honor all of those that have served or are serving in the armed forces.

*I introduced partial sums this week, and just like everything else, some students caught on quickly while others struggled through it.  We will continue to work on it in class.  Please encourage your child to solve two and three digit addition problems using partial sums.  This will really help your child (and me)!

*Our Unit 4 math test will take place on Tuesday, November 18th.

Thanks!
