Important
Announcements:
*Next
week is a busy week for us! Please read
carefully for all of the special events that are going on!
*Tuesday,
November 11th is Veteran’s Day.
We will be having a special program in honor of this holiday. The program will start at 9:00 a.m. and will
be ending at about 10:00 a.m. We are
asking that students wear red, white, and blue for this special occasion!
*Because
of the Veteran’s Day program our special schedule has changed slightly. We will be going to library from 1:00 –
1:30. During Library next week is the
annual book fair. If your child would
like to purchase books from the book fair, he/she needs to bring money in on
this day. Tuesday, November 11th is the ONLY day our class will
have the chance to shop.
*Next week is a big math week for
us! I will be introducing partial sums
to your child. I will start introducing
it Wednesday during math, and we will be working on it Thursday and
Friday. Partial sums is not the
“traditional” method of how we were taught to add two-digit numbers. I will be teaching that method to your child
later in the school year. Try to
encourage your child to use partial sums for now. I have included a YouTube link to a video
that helps to explain partial sums: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjQm9BBs0iY

Using a
number grid is emphasized highly in EveryDay Math, and I thought it would be a
good idea to send one to you if your child needs it. Attached to this e-mail is a number grid that
could help your child with his/her math homework.
*Brownsburg
Community School Corporation is hosting an EveryDay Math Night for second grade
parents on Wednesday, November 12th at White Lick Elementary from
6:30 – 7:30 p.m. This evening is
designed to help you have a greater understanding of math achievement and the
math progression in our corporation, ways to help your child with homework, and
fun and easy math games that you can play at home with your child. I think this evening will be incredibly
beneficial for you so mark your calendars and plan on attending!
*Yankee
Candle Pickup: Wednesday, November 12th from 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and
Thursday, November 13th from 4-8 p.m. at the BCSC Maintenance Facility located
at 550 East Airport Road.
*Continue
to work on addition and subtraction math facts.
Make sure to use those fact triangles that were sent home, or you can
practice for free online at www.xtramath.org. Let me know if you need the log-in
information sent home again.
*If
anyone is able to come in and volunteer next week, send me an e-mail and let me
know what day and time works best for you!
Thanks!
*I believe
in building relationships with the children both inside my classroom and
outside the classroom. If your child
participates in any extracurricular activities (sports, dance, theater, etc.),
or has any other events that he/she would like to invite me to, please let me
know, and I will do my best to come!
*The blog
will also be updated with this information as well so if you need to see it again
